The Importance of Colon Cleansing
How many times a day do you have a bowel movement? Once? Twice? Or do you only have a bowel movement once every other day, or – shocker – once a week? What if we also told you that the average person has between SEVEN to TEN POUNDS of old fecal matter in their colon, even with a bowel movement every day!
What if we told you that you should be having a bowel movement more than once a day? What if we told you that the food that most Americans consume are chock full of chemicals, antibiotics, hormones, pesticides and herbicides that make it incredibly difficult for your intestines to digest and eliminate properly?
According to the Body Ecology website, “…Constipation, digestive distress, and mucous in your stools are just a few signs that your colon might not be completely healthy, and a healthy colon is absolutely necessary for a healthy body. After all, good health begins in your gut. But more than 70 million Americans struggle with digestive problems, and many people are not even aware that their colons could be the culprit.”
Here are some signs of a healthy colon:
Daily elimination
Mild-smelling breath
No mucous, blood, or partially digested food in your stool
Stools expelled effortlessly
Soft, well formed stools, often in a long tube shape
Clear skin without blemishes
What’s the big deal about your colon? Why is it so important? Well, the colon (also known as the large intestine), is approximately 5 feet long. The main functions of the colon are threefold: to absorb water and vitamins/electrolytes from indigestible food matter, to accept and store food remains that were not digested in the small intestine; and to eliminate solid waste (feces) from the body. The colon contains nearly 60 varieties of micro flora or bacteria to aid digestion, promote vital nutrient production, to maintain pH (acid-base) balance, and to prevent proliferation of harmful bacteria.
When you aren’t eating properly, this can cause a buildup of waste that can then line the intestinal walls which will create an environment where toxins and parasites can thrive. Scary, right?
One of the most influential ways to help the colon* cleanse safely and effectively is the use of Colon Cleansing. There are many different ways to cleanse the colon, but the way we feel is #1 would be Colon Hydrotherapy. Colon Hydrotherapy is a gentle cleansing of the large intestine.
At Gentle Wellness Center, we use state-of-the-art FDA registered open and closed devices using a 3 stage filter and temperature-controlled water. The client lies on a table/basin connected to a Colon Hydrotherapy device, with a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle, while water gently circulates into the colon. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water can release. As water is flowing out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the client can view their elimination.
Colon Hydrotherapy’s main strength is hydration and can impact the whole digestive system. Almost anyone can benefit from internal cleansing! Most people feel great after their session; others may feel differently according to what they have eliminated. It can be compared to deep cleaning a house…what was hidden? These effects can vary from person to person and is normally of short duration.
When you’re using the restroom, do you sometimes feel after leaving that you didn’t actually “finish” having a bowel movement? Believe it or not, that can be because of the way you are sitting on the toilet! Make bowel movements easier by using a product called “Step & Go” – this will help to position the colon correctly to aid in elimination – and here is their website!
